I’m writing this blog from Copenhagen, where I’m making a film project together with the Copenhagen Architecture Festival (CAFx).
I’m staying at the place of my colleague from the film industry - we met during the WIFT Summit, and this connection helped me so much to feel invited to Copenhagen. As with many other places, one needs to be invited to the film community, get to know people and start recognizing the ones you feel most comfortable doing the project together. Filmmaking is a lot about collaboration for me, trust in the experience and professionalism of each other, the ability to learn together and find solutions.
This post is about my deep appreciation for all the organizations and people who were helping me in different ways to make films happen, to feel part of the film industry and community, and to call myself a director. I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the Academy of Moving People and Images for giving me all the tools and knowledge to find my voice and be able to join film sets in different roles. The more I participated in the projects, the deeper I understood the importance of all the skills and discussions we had, it just took so much time for me to start using it and seeing the broader picture.
I want to thank WIFT for so many beautiful connections I’ve made during the networking events and Summit and this mentoring program, which helped me to crystalize my understanding of how to present myself, how to use more sustainable practices, how to expand the mindset to embrace new ways of doing things, even though there are so many limitations and obstacles. I’ve received amazing feedback from Anne on presenting myself in the applications, short bios or motivational letters. During the call, we went through some examples of my bios and I can understand now how I could improve. The hardest part for me with the application rejections is that I don’t receive any feedback, therefore it’s hard to understand how I could make my next application better. Therefore a pair of mentoring eyes helps a lot to understand how another person could perceive my applications.
That’s it for now, the moment I would like to try this journey of nomad artist exploring the residencies for filmmakers and take more time to dive into the topics of permaculture and ecofeminism that look like solutions I was looking for a long time for social, and environmental, and cultural problems we’ve faced.
