Dreaming of the Future

I am writing this blog, returning from my house, which has become so cozy and warm, warmed by the stove. Full moon. During the full moon, thoughts go into dreams, sometimes very distant, and sometimes so close and realistic.

I applied for a mentoring program because I felt that I could not decide on many things - whether to go headlong into media art and experiment, or try to touch the hearts of the masses in the film and entertainment industry. I have finished my big (by the standards of my career) project, and I do not know if I will have the next one. This fear often oppresses me - will there be this next project? What if all my applications come with a rejection? In addition, there is always a question in the depths of my heart, am I honest with myself and do I have the right to tell stories? What if I turn my soul inside out and find emptiness and darkness there?

At the beginning of this year, I participated in the Diversity and Inclusion program organized by the European film market with the "Notes on the Future" project, which touches on the topic of AI, sustainability, and the future. I wanted to invent a future in which I wanted to be and which gave me hope. The so-called “bright future” requires a revision of everything - a complete restructuring of the social, economic, and political world. I felt that I could not cover such a global topic, at least alone. When I saw that Anne (Anne Puolanne, my mentor :) was participating in the program, and her domain of expertise was sustainability, I felt an urgent desire to discuss this topic, our future, and what we can do for him as filmmakers, together. That's how we spent our first call - actually discussing what is the core of sustainability, what mindset it requires and what are the tradeoffs.

Due to the fact that I often moved, my creative life is still lacking a very important component - a community, a society of people burning with creativity, common ideas and mutual help. It takes a village to make a film, and I’m still looking for my village. On Anne's recommendation, I went to the Finnish Film Affair, where I met a huge number of amazing people. Over the weekend I participated in the Women in Film & Television Summit, where I met many wonderful women from all over the world. What incredible energy circulates in the room where talented women have gathered together and discussed such familiar problems for all of us, offered solutions, and act, and shared knowledge and experience! I am inspired, energized, and ready to move forward, whether it's straightforward or challenging paths ahead.
