Mentori: Katri Aksola

Born in Los Angeles and now based in Helsinki, Pamela  Cohn is a freelance film & video curator, arts & culture writer, nonfiction story consultant and dramaturge for filmmakers and moving image artists. She has worked as a professional mentor for such entities as Open City London's Assembly and The British Council / Scottish Documentary Institute’s program, Connecting Stories.

Pamela is the author of Lucid Dreaming: Conversations with 29 Filmmakers (OR Books New York & London, 2020) and produced, wrote and hosted The Lucid Dreaming Podcast: Conversations on Cinema, Art & Moving Image in cooperation with Lono Studio, London. She has been a contributing writer for MIT’s Open Doc Lab blog site IMMERSE; Filmmaker Magazine; BOMB Magazine; The Calvert Journal; Senses of Cinema; Documentary Association Europe; and works as a freelance writer for film print and web publications, catalogues and artist materials.

Pamela created the blog Still in Motion, dedicated to the documentary form, active from 2007 to 2015. She works as a host, moderator and interlocutor for filmmaker talks, panels and roundtables at an array of international festivals and film exhibition events.

Mentori: Vera Kiiskinen

I am an actor, director, teacher and a writer. I graduated from the University of Arts in 2011, and I feel like I am in crossroads or a turning point in my career where I wish to expand my possibilities as a maker, learn more about film and screenwriting and try to find my focus.

My latest big work was in Kikka! - movie directed by Anna Paavilainen. I played Kikka. Before that I acted in Hannaleena Hauru’s ”Fucking with Nobody” and Jonas Selberg Augusténs ”The Longest Day”.

I have worked as a teacher for first year acting students at University of Arts and I’m going to teach film acting at Tampere University this winter.

I have directed these performances: Pop Slut (2013) Plastic Bride (2015) , Father Fucker (2016), The Betty Show (2020) and a collaborative work Armageddon (2022). I have also studied in the program of Feminist Leadership at Urbanapa. I am drawn to the world of pop culture, trash, camp and personal stories turned into fantasies. I’m now working on three scripts, for theatre & film, that I wish to work on this fall and in the future.

We need to see more diversity in film & tv. Not only in front of the camera but behind it as well, in positions of power. I am a firm believer in women supporting women and that includes the lgbtqia+ community.

I want to work towards an antiracist, more equal, and non-discriminatory world, and I want to make wild and surreal and transgressive art.

Mentori: Eveliina Pitkänen

Opiskelen Metropoliassa Elokuva ja Televisio -linjalla tuotantosuuntautuneesti. Valmistun Joulukuussa 2023 medianomiksi. Olen aina ollut täsmällinen ja looginen, mutta myös luova ja taiteellinen. Tuottamisessa tarvitaan tekniikan, talouden ja elokuvataiteen osaamista sekä esihenkilö- ja ryhmätyötaitoja ja markkinointituntemusta. Näiden lisäksi on hallittava taiteelliset ratkaisut. Olenkin kiinnostunut tuottajan työstä juuri siksi: haluan olla luova ja työskennellä audiovisuaalisten teosten parissa hyödyntäen järjestelmällisyyttäni ja kykyäni pitää kaikkia lankoja käsissä samaan aikaan. Ongelmanratkaisustakin on tullut minulle mielekäs haaste.

Haaveenani on toimia luovana tuottajana, koska haluan olla mukana luovassa prosessissa. Uskon eläytymiskykyni sekä empaattisuuteni olevan hyödyksi tarinoiden luomisessa. Haluan tehdä elokuvia, joita ei tehtäisi ilman minua.

Uusi tavoitteeni on kouluttautua myös läheisyyden koreografiksi. Uskon koreografin työn yleistymisen lisäävän työhyvinvointia ja turvallisuutta sekä täydentävän tarinankerrontaa audiovisuaalisella alalla. Haluan sitoutua edistämään toiminnallani sekä tulevaisuuden tuotannoillani tasa-arvoista, yhdenvertaista ja kestävää av-alaa.

Mentori: Anne Puolanne

I am a Helsinki-based director, photographer, and media artist. I graduated from "Academy of Moving People and Images" in 2022 with the short art film "The Story Of", and participated with the feature fiction film "Notes on the Future" in the Berlinale EFM Toolbox program 2023. I always keep my educational process ongoing with scriptwriting and directing workshops, and eager to join my colleagues on set in different roles.

One aspect that has become an integral part of my filmmaking ethos is the infusion of feminism and the exploration of sustainability in every project, both on screen and on set, using recycled materials and second-hand objects for the costumes and props, and collaborating with the creatives, who infuse ecofeminism in their practices. I take inspiration from surreal aesthetics, unconventional narratives, and deeply human themes that shaped my understanding of the power of storytelling.

I strongly believe in the power of community and art to create a better picture of our possible future and help address the current social and climate issues, and consider cinema as a powerful medium, that could bring hope and change to our society.

Mentori: Kati Royle

Olen helsinkiläinen käsikirjoittaja, ohjaaja ja dramaturgi. Tähän asti olen työskennellyt laajasti niin teatteri-, tanssi kuin AV-alalla sekä Suomessa että Ruotsissa. Valmistuin Taideyliopiston Teatterikorkeakoulusta dramaturgian ja näytelmän kirjoittamisen koulutusohjelmasta keväällä 2021. Valmistumiseni jälkeen olen muun muassa kirjoittanut apurahalla uutta näytelmää, työskennellyt Yle Draamalle lukevana dramaturgina TV- ja radiotuotannoissa, opettanut käsikirjoittamista, valmistanut rap-musiikkia ja installaatiota yhdistelevän feministisen performanssin Ateneumiin sekä kirjoittanut kuunnelmasovituksen radioon. Viimeisimpiä töitäni ovat Aikuiset -komediasarjassa sekä Outopodcast -audiosarjassa työskentely lukevana dramaturgina.

Pyrin taiteellisessa työssäni sekä kirjoittajana että dramaturgina lähestymään käsillä olevaa teosta herkästi ja kuunnellen, etsien kunkin teoksen sisällöllistä ydintä ja merkitystä tässä maailmassa. Olen kiinnostunut ihmisyyden ristiriitaisuuksista, paradokseista sekä alueista, jotka eivät välttämättä taivu selkeään muotoon tai kieleen. Itselleni puhuttelevimmat teokset onnistuvat tavoittamaan juuri tämän alueen, jossa itkun ja naurun välistä saattaa avautua jotain kirkasta ja totuudellista maailmasta sekä meistä ihmisistä.

Ehkä se on myös jotain, mitä toivon pystyväni tarjoamaan myös omassa taiteessani ja yhteistyössäni muiden kirjoittajien kanssa.
